The OSI Group is an American holding company of meat processors who support the retail and food industries. The OSI Group globally headquartered in Aurora, Illinois. The operate all over the world. They are best known for being the the first supplier of ground beef for McDonalds when they first opened their store. After cryogenic food processing was possible, the OSI Group better known as Otto and Sons back then, became one of four meat supplies for McDonalds.
The first meat plant was built in 1973 in West Chicago. In 1975, the company was renamed the OSI Group. The OSI Group prospered as McDonald’s continue to expand globally. Forbes previously listed it as America’s 136th largest private company earning $3 billion in revenues annually. Forbes again listed the OSI Group at 58 largest private company, with $6.1 billion in revenues. The OSI Group operates U.S. plants in Chicago, Genva, Oakland, Iowa, Utah, Wisconsin and California. The company has more than 65 facilities within 17 countries around the globe. OSI produces meat patties, bacon, hot dogs, pizza, fish, pork, poultry, vegetable and dough based products. The OSI group has supplied meat to several well known fast food chains offered in China including: Subway, Starbucks, Papa John’s Pizza and Pizza Hut.
The OSI Group has received multiple awards for their excellent management of health risks as well as environmental management. In 2016, the British Safety Council awarded OSI Food Solutions U.K. with the Globe of Honour. The OSI Group also received the Sword of Honour.
